All Done with Surgery #6...

We just spoke with the doctor, and Emma Kate is doing well. We are waiting for a room to be cleared for her back in the CICU, and then we will get to see her. During the procedure, the pictures showed (and we got to see them, pretty crazy...)that she had some "flem" (I'm not sure how medically acceptable that word is). They suctioned that out and then went down further with the camera. They confirmed that EK does have narrowing of the airway. So, our vocabulary word of the week is "stenosis". We talked about this earlier in the week when she had her heart cath, and had narrowing of the left pulmonary artery. Like the cath, they put a balloon in her airway and dilated it. The subglottic stenosis is probably a result of the intubation from the cath and the open-heart surgery. They gave her some steroids that should help with the problem, and will also start her on some antibiotics and strong reflux medicine. They will look with the scope again tomorrow to make sure the airway is still open. It is a possibility that they could have to repeat this procedure several more times before we leave, but we are crossing our fingers that we won't have to do that. Thankfully the ECHO was done at the same time, so we won't have to do that tomorrow. I haven't heard the results from that. Now, I'm off to see my baby girl. Will up date again soon. Please pray that her airway stays open, that there won't be any more procedures necessary, and that she is healed of the stridor Oh, and a quick trip home for us would be nice too :)
